Request a Billing Adjustment
If you had a water leak, used water outdoors during the winter that did not go into the sewer, or think there is an error on your bill, you can ask the District for an adjustment. One request form covers all three. Fill it out online below, or download the fillable PDF at the bottom of this page.
Please submit your request within 60 days of the bill you are asking about.
Which kind of adjustment?
- Water leak (Policy 6040). A credit on the water charge for an unintentional leak that was repaired within 30 days of the bill date. The credit is 50% of the water used above your normal usage for the same period in the past two years. One leak adjustment per parcel per calendar year. Payment plans are available for the rest.
- Sewer charge for winter water use (Policy 6045). Your sewer charge is based on your water use from November through April. If water you used outdoors in those months (livestock, irrigation, dust control, filling a pond) did not go into the sewer, you can ask to have the sewer charge recalculated. Leaks are covered by Policy 6040, not this one.
- Billing error (Policy 6050). A meter misread, wrong rate, or other District error. Billing errors can be corrected for up to 12 months before the error was found.
A leak between November and April can raise both your water bill and your sewer charge for the year. If that happened, check both boxes on the form.
What to include
- A repair receipt or invoice, photos, or a plumber’s statement (for a leak)
- Proof of outdoor use, an estimate of the gallons used outdoors, and the number of fixtures at the property (for a sewer adjustment)
- The bill date(s) you are asking about and a short explanation of what happened
What happens next
- District staff review your request against the policy. The District may inspect the property to verify it.
- The General Manager (or designee) approves or denies the request. Adjustments over $500 go to the Board of Directors for review.
- We will let you know the decision. An approved adjustment is credited to your account.
- If your request is denied, you may appeal in writing within 30 days. Appeals are heard by the Board of Directors at a public meeting.
