Request to have water turned off

Water leak or other emergency? Call the District right away at (530) 258-2171, or after hours at (530) 816-0505. If your property has its own shut-off valve on your side of the meter, close it. Never touch the meter or the valve in the meter box. You do not need a form for an emergency.

There are two different requests, depending on what you need:

1. Turn the water off for a while (your account stays open)
Use this if you will be away or the property is vacant for the winter. Making a repair? Call the office to schedule the shut-off and turn-on. No form is needed and there is no charge. The District turns the water off at the meter, and turns it back on when the customer of record calls the office. Water is turned off and on during regular working hours.
Fees: $35.00 to turn off and $50.00 to turn back on during business hours; $70.00 and $100.00 after hours or on a holiday.
Monthly charges continue. There is no standby or vacancy rate under the current rates. The monthly water meter charge and base sewer charge are billed every month the water is off; only the water usage charge stops. Sewer service cannot be stopped while the property is connected to the sewer system.
Protect your plumbing: turning off the meter does not drain your pipes. Draining and protecting your plumbing from freezing is your responsibility, and all faucets and hose bibs must be closed before the water is turned back on.
Form: Request to Turn Water Off or On (fill it out online or download the fillable PDF).

2. End service in your name and close your account
Use this if you are selling or transferring the property. The District takes a final meter reading, mails a final bill to your forwarding address, and applies any deposit to that bill. Accounts are not transferred: the new owner must apply for service in their own name.
Form: Request to Terminate Service and Close Account (fill it out online or download the fillable PDF).
